Enhance your skills with lockdown home learning!

With a second national lockdown now in force, many of us will be spending more time at home – again. Unlike the wall-to-wall sunshine of spring, though, the increasingly chilly and wet weather at this time of year means we’re likely to be indoors with extra time on our hands while the kids are at school. So why not use the opportunity to boost your knowledge and gain new skills with some lockdown home learning?

The last period of national lockdown was a time for taking up exercise with Joe Wicks, baking banana bread and learning new skills. This latest lockdown will undoubtedly bring with it a few new trends as we approach Christmas, but distance learning and e-learning is likely to remain popular as we look for ways to stop those four walls from closing in.

Research shows that more than 950,000 people enrolled on UK distance learning courses during the last lockdown, while thousands more started learning a new language. More than a fifth of Brits took up a new hobby over the same period and 35% rediscovered an old pastime.

With growing uncertainty around jobs, lockdown is an ideal opportunity to build skills – e-learning courses in leadership, management and digital skills proved particularly popular last time. For others, it was a time to discover new passions and join the 85,000 online businesses that opened up while physical premises were closed.

Whether you want to build your skills or uncover a hidden talent, the next few weeks will be prime time to enrol on an e-learning course and make the most of a quieter month.
